Something I learned

So over this past summer I had a lot of fists. But my favorite first is the fact that I met an author who was willing to sit down and talk with me for an interview. She is an amazing writer from Grey's Anatomy and she also writes for other television shows.  She gave me some great advice also since I too am a writer and I couldn't believe I got the chance to meet her! Sonay Washington is a great person and I'm lucky I got to know her.

Blog 4: Interview Preperation

1.  Who do you plan to interview?  Why?

  •  I plan to interview Sonay Hoffman because she is a writer who has written many screenplays and also is the writer of Grey's Anatomy as an assistant and is now a writer for different companies. I chose her because of her background and also I have met her in person.
2.  You have to ask 5 questions.  What additional questions do you plan to ask?  Ask open-ended questions.

  1. How did you get into writing?
  2. Do you like the writing your doing?
  3. How long does it take you to go over a script and edit the work?
  4. Can you tell me a little bit about how you came up with the many different scripts you have written and where the inspiration came from?
  5. Do you have any advice as a writer on how to make sure the script is well written and organized and edited properly?
  6. Do you chose what you write or are you given something to write and edit?
  7. What is your favorite thing to write?
  8. Co you ever feel like you should be doing something else?
  9. How long has it been since you first started writing?
  10. Do you have any suggestions on who I should interview in the future?

4. What is the most important thing you gained from this experience? Why?
  • The most important thing I learned from this experience is that it takes time and patience for something to be finished and that you have to be as concentrated and focused to succeed in the world of editing. I realized over the summer that not everything I do is the best but with a little help from others around me it can become great. I can achieve great things if i take my time and use patience.

5. What is your senior project topic going to be? How did what you did help you choose a topic? Please explain.
  • My senior topic is going to be Editing. Working with Dr. Kessler was a great help in choosing this topic because of the many different things i was told. I was told to become a great editor you start at the bottom writing stories or papers and you work yourself up. the trick to it is to make sure most if not all your spelling and grammar and sentence sequencing is correct. I also learned from my experience that even a little change can help.  I found that finding a mentorship is actually more difficult than I thought when it came time to look for one in editing because not everyone knows what a mentorship is. I learned that editing is a big job and that not one but three people will edit one piece of work before an actual editor takes a final look and like what they see. I found that editing is something I love doing because every time I edited something I would smile.
