October Post

So this month I started my mentorship at poly post. This is a magazine on cal poly pomona's campus. I am in charge of a lot while I'm mentoring there. First I am working on editing most of the newspaper with the editorial group of kids. The fun thing I learned this month is how to use in-design. It is quite interesting when you learn how to do layouts on the computer. Before computers we are supposed to take a hard copy and put the articles in order and then we take them and put them in in-design and work on them. for the most part thats all I'm doing but the learning process was hard. I had to really pay attention to details and make sure i hadn't messed up anything so that when the paper got published there were no noticeable mistakes.
this is a version of the poly post. this is what I work on every Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, and sometimes on Saturday.

1.  What is your working EQ?
  • In what way has publishing a book changed over time during the 21st century?

  • Publishing over the years has been digitalized and has become a new generation of technology with new advancements and jobs available. (Answer still in the working)
3.  What is the most important source you have used that has helped you come up with an answer to your working EQ?
  • my most important source i have used that helped me come up with an answer for my working EQ is the book called "all the things you would ever write. " it has so much information on certain ideas about writing in general.
4.  Who is your mentor, or where are you doing mentorship, and how does what you are doing relate to your working EQ?
  • My mentor is Dr. Douglas Spoon and I am doing my mentorship at the Poly Post newspaper and this relates to my working EQ because the newspapers used to be only in print and now the newspapers are on the internet and now anyone can access them.

Blog #7 : Independent Component

1.  Describe in detail what you plan to do for your 30 hours.
  • For my independent component I will be going to a research class that my mother teaches twice a week for three hours but I will also be writing a book on the life of Ipoly and self-publishing it at the end of senior project. The class includes different way to look up articles and book needed for a good research paper and also how to make an annotated bibliography. This class will tie into what we are doing for senior project as well because of the research we are doing to find more information on our topic. The book I will be writing will be all about the Ipoly life and will have interviews from many students and teachers about the school. I will try to get at least 20 different point of views from kids at I-poly and try to interview all the teachers that haven't left I-poly to get a better and broader area to work with.
2.  Discuss how or what you will do to meet the expectation of showing 30 hours of evidence.
  • I will be showing 30 hours worth of evidence by interviewing people at school but also have my mom sign a paper saying when I was in class and for how long. I will also update the hours log as I go along.
3.  And explain how what you will be doing will help you explore your topic in more depth.
  • What I'm doing will help me explore my topic in depth by giving me a look onto how it feels to have to do so much research and also gives me a feel for being an self-publishing author. It gives me a chance to explore and divulge in everything having to do with self- publishing including editing and writing and rewriting the work. I believe this will be a great experience for me.
4.  Update your Senior Project Hours log.
  • Senior Project Hours are updated.
